Turns out Evergreen is having a baptismal service tomorrow and NOT meeting in their usual place... which is good for them, but bad for us, because we can't visit (well, we CAN, but none of us really wants to). Bummer since I took tomorrow off especially for this (for the three of us to go together).
Anyway, Matt and I are going to go check out Imago Dei, just the two of us, which is still exciting. I have seen some pretty sweet stuff on their website about art and especially film in their community. I hope I get to see some of that tomorrow, I have been missing my art community at school... and last night for some reason I looked through the slideshow on the Ethnos website, and I almost wanted to cry. Our church used to be REALLY different... first off, over half the people in the pictures are gone. And second, do you remember when we used to do really cool stuff with sacred spaced? I don't know if anyone else misses it, but I sure do...

Oh yeah, when we started ethnos used to be very interactive. Seems like other than sharing prayer requests and answering questions during the sermon there isn't much of that.
went to Imago Dei after Ethnos, a lot of GFU students would drive out from Newberg fro their services. I love it. I am sure you did too. It brought back something so incredibly bold and refreshing to a church "service"/ gathering. The people there were also awesome, I couldn't believe how diverse it was. I go back every time I am in town. Kyle and I are going to make it our "home church" when we move back. How did you two like it?

The atmosphere we were able to create at WHUUF was great. I loved the creativity and warmth. It has been tough to get even close to creating that atmosphere at our current location...I also, recently reviewed our pictures. Memory lane and history, a good thing to revisit and think about where you've been and where you want to be now or go.
I thought Imago Dei was only okay... maybe it's just because I've heard so many great things about it... I was expecting something somehow better.
The teaching was amazing... I don't know who the regular pastor was but it wasn't him, it was a guy named Luke Hendrix. Anyway, he was a good teacher. He had a good mix of exposition (is that the right word?) and application, which was refreshing. Also he seemed really well prepared for his sermon.
The other thing that was pretty rad was that there was a guy who talked for a while about his ministry... it was called Love Portland, and they did a bunch of service projects for the city. It was cool to see a tangible way that a church is helping to show Christ's love to the city. It really seems like they "get" how to be missional.
You're right, Jade, in that the community there is really diverse, and that's also awesome... I saw many older people which is great, and lots of older families.
They also had a lot of classes going on (for the adults as well as the kids).
The downsides were the musical worship (only hymns, no drums, and it wasn't mixed very well) which was pretty stiff and dull, I didn't see ANY art (although I hear there is usually lots) and no one talked to us outside of the 30-second meet and greet (which was incredibly awkward). I don't think anything except the musical worship really bothered me, though... but after ethnos, dull musical worship is a breaking point for me.
I think it's possible we just went on an off week, though.
Oh yeah, and they were starting up a financial management class as well as having a few live forums led by the elders... both of which were things I was really impressed by.
Luke Hendrix is a friend of Pauls and he spoke at our mens retreat 2 years ago. Seems like a good guy...I agree on the music though, We have great worship music at Ethnos.
Hm, that's awesome. Weird though about the worship, there usually are drums (not a set though) and TONS of art work by local artists within the church. Hm. Oh well. I am glad you liked it regardless.
